Parry is a random chance of blocking a physical attack. Each class or job has a 10% chance of parrying a physical attack when it hits, providing a 15% reduction in damage. Parry is distinct from blocking an attack, which requires having a shield equipped. Players cannot parry while casting a spell.

Historical

Parry was an attribute that determined the probability of blocking or parrying an enemy attack. Higher parry corresponded to a higher rate of blocks and parries.
Successfully parrying an attack reduces the damage received from that attack by 20%. In patch 4.0, this attribute was replaced with tenacity, a tank-specific stat.
