Journal
- Yaana's face lights up at the sight of you.
- In the midst of your hiatus from the Arcadion, you find Yaana in front of her gym, and are pleasantly surprised to discover that she has been hoping to see you. She remarks that though cruiserweight matches have yet to begin, she and Neyuni have made a breakthrough in their research about psychonekrosis. It seems they would share it with you inside.
- Neyuni reveals that after a failed attempt to access Everkeep's core systems, she was furnished with data from Origenics courtesy of Oblivion, and has discovered a means to evaluate the condition of one's soul. Equipped with such knowledge, Yaana would examine her comrades in the light-heavyweight division to determine if they have been afflicted with psychonekrosis. Having received your blessing to do so, she wastes no time in contacting Honey B. Lovely, her senior at the Arcadion.
- Honey is shocked by your revelation, and is all too happy to retire from the Arcadion, declaring she will pursue a new avenue for her talents. Relieved that Honey was more understanding than anticipated, Yaana states there is one more whom she would inform and examine: the Brute Bomber. Together, you set off for the place of his dwelling, residential radius 9-11.
- Upon entering his apartment, the peculiar sight of the Brute Bomber surrounded by a trio of adorable kittens meets your eyes. Beside him stands the Howling Blade, his childhood friend, who informs you that the pair owe the president of the Arcadion a debt of gratitude they can never repay. Carefully reading the air, he takes his leave, allowing Yaana to reveal the dire cost of using feral souls to the Brute Bomber. You are already too late, however, as Neyuni's examination indicates his soul already shows signs of the affliction. The diagnosis is proven true not a moment later when the Brute Bomber suffers from a severe bout of dizziness, a symptom of the disease. Yet in spite of the mounting evidence and Yaana's earnest warnings, he remains in denial. The three of you depart his room with faint hope he will have a change of heart.
- With yet another person stricken by the disease, Yaana and Neyuni are resolved to find a cure as soon as possible. You are interrupted in the midst of your deliberations by a call from Metem, who relays that cruiserweight matches are soon to begin. Having been summoned to meet him in the greenroom of the Arcadion, Neyuni vows to continue researching a cure while you and Yaana focus on winning your upcoming matches.
- The Arcadion attendant welcomes you cordially, and graciously guides you through the facility's familiar halls to the greenroom.
- ※In the event that you leave the area, you may return by speaking with the Arcadion attendant in front of the Arcadion.
- No sooner do you enter the room than a boisterous playboy pops open a bottle of champagne, ostensibly in celebration of your arrival. Taken aback, you turn looking for Metem, and instead spot a conspicuous lass vandalizing the room with graffiti. The colorful pair greet you before suddenly departing, and Metem informs you that they shall be your opponents in the cruiserweight tier.
- The time has come to begin your cruiserweight campaign. Yaana implores you to psych yourself up for the coming matches, as each of your rivals wield more potent souls─and greater power─than your foes in the light-heavyweight tier.
Dialogue
Accepting the quest
Yaana: Hey, Forename. You're just the person I wanted to see. Yaana: Cruiserweight matches have yet to begin, but Neyuni and I've made some breakthroughs in our research about psychonekrosis. Come inside─we'll tell you what we've learned.
Optional Dialogue
Neyuni: It's good to see you, Instapull. As you may have heard, we've managed to dig up a lead regarding psychonekrosis.
Speak with Yaana in Tritails Training (cutscene)
Yaana: Before diving into the details, perhaps a refresher is in order. It's a rather complicated affair, after all... Yaana: You had barely been crowned champion of the light-heavyweight division before our sister, Eutrope, challenged you. She was intent on claiming your soul as a means to cure psychonekrosis. Yaana: The illness appears to afflict those who use feral souls to an excessive degree─those such as Arcadion fighters. Yaana: We learned from Eutrope that the immortalized, who we thought lived in luxury in the upper levels, are actually dead─taken by the disease.
Neyuni: Since that revelation, we've looked for alternate ways to cure psychonekrosis, and we finally have some news to share.
Yaana: It's all thanks to Neyuni. Like Eutrope, she has a sense for electrope technology. She's learned to do all sorts of things from tinkering on her own.
Neyuni: Oh Yaana, don't give him the wrong idea. It's the people of Oblivion that we have to thank for our discoveries. I had attempted to access Everkeep's core systems for information on souls, you see... Neyuni: Unsurprisingly, I failed. What's more, an Oblivion member who was monitoring unauthorized access found me. Neyuni: She took me to task, scolding me to never again do something so reckless. Neyuni: When I explained our predicament, however, she kindly shared research data Oblivion had acquired from Origenics. The data was quite difficult to parse, but I managed to find some relevant information. Neyuni: Namely, that the military was well aware of psychonekrosis, having also sought to utilize feral souls. Furthermore, they had developed a method to identify the presence of the affliction. Yaana: This brings us to our next move. Now that we're privy to this method, we feel that we should use it to diagnose other fighters. They deserve to know if they're ill.
What will you say? > Indeed. It isn't right to leave them ignorant. > It would be risky to alert them.
< Indeed. It isn't right to leave them ignorant. > Yaana: I'm glad you agree. I can't sit idly by knowing that they might die.
< It would be risky to alert them. > Yaana: Yes, very. That's why we came to you before taking action. Yaana: As Metem warned us, the president doesn't take kindly to those who get in his way. He'd be extremely unimpressed if we revealed the secret to those you've yet to fight, and caused their withdrawal. Yaana: Of course, you're still liable to incur the president's ire by becoming grand champion and releasing all the souls in the repository. But we should avoid getting in his crosshairs for as long as we can. Yaana: That's why I propose we approach only those fighters you've already bested. As they're barred from fighting for a time, it wouldn't have an immediate impact on the championship. Yaana: There are still risks, however. Every time our fellow fighters use a feral soul, they bring themselves closer to psychonekrosis─including in a match against you. Yaana: Which is why it's important we tell them the truth as soon as possible. So we can stop that from happening for good. Yaana: Knowing what the illness has done to Eutrope...it feels nothing less than personal. Yaana: To begin with, let's reveal the truth to Honey. Despite being rivals, we're actually quite close. Just a moment while I call her... Yaana: She's busy as I expected, but can spare a moment for us. She's on her way here now.
Optional Dialogue
Neyuni: I was frightened at first when Oblivion found me, but when I actually met its members, they all turned out to be quite nice.
Yaana: Honey manages to balance two careers at once. I can't help but admire her.
Wait at the designated location (cutscene)
Honey B. Lovely: So, what's this about, then? I hope it's as urgent as you say it is. Honey B. Lovely: My stars... You're serious, aren't you? C-Could I be afflicted as well...?
Neyuni: There's a way to diagnose you. Regulators are designed to monitor the state of the wearer's soul. If we connect yours to a terminal, we can confirm whether there are signs of the disease. Neyuni: Please be at ease, Miss Honey. Your soul shows no signs of degradation.
Honey B. Lovely: Truly? Oh, what a relief! I shudder to imagine how I might be affected by such a dreadful disease... Honey B. Lovely: You're fine too, I suppose? You joined the Arcadion well after I did, after all.
Yaana: W-Well, I haven't gotten any symptoms yet...
Neyuni: Yaana was so eager to prove herself, she utilized feral souls numerous times when training. So when I examined her, we found that she's on the threshold of developing the disease.
Honey B. Lovely: For mercy's sake, Yaana! We're forbidden from training with feral souls! ...And knowing what I know now, I'd say it's because the president doesn't want us to die too early. It'd be bad for entertainment.
Yaana: At any rate, neither of us should use feral souls again. Which means we can't fight in the Arcadion anymore...
Honey B. Lovely: Alright, then! I'll retire!
Yaana: R-Really!? I wasn't expecting you to decide so quickly...
Honey B. Lovely: While I've graced countless magazine covers and concert stages, I never shined so brightly as when I fought in the ring, it's true. Honey B. Lovely: But everything I've done was so that I could bask in the adoration of the people. I couldn't do that if I were dead, now could I? Honey B. Lovely: So I'll look for another avenue to apply my talents, and you can be sure that I'll succeed. After all... Honey B. Lovely: I'm Honey B. Lovely, the brightest star in the sky! Honey B. Lovely: Now then, I'm scheduled to appear on a broadcast, so I must be on my way. Thanks for the warning, my dears. You're lifesavers!
Yaana: She really is something else, Honey... Yaana: Right, that leaves one other fighter I'd like to inform: the Brute Bomber, who you defeated to become light-heavyweight champion. Yaana: We're not exactly friends, but I won't abandon him either. He's not likely to answer when called, though, so we'll need to visit him at his home, in residential radius 9-11.
Optional Dialogue
Neyuni: I always carry a personal terminal with me, so we can check for the illness when we arrive at the apartment.
Speak with Yaana
Yaana: Here we are. Let's hope he's willing to hear us out...
Cutscene
Brute Bomber: You're all so cute, I could eat you up!
Gentle Man: Hmph, why do they flock only to you? It's hardly fair.
Brute Bomber: Well, these are my kittens. If you don't like it, you can go back to your woman.
Gentle Man: ...Rub salt in the wound, will you? You know full well she left me. Gentle Man: Come on, little ones. Come to me.
Yaana: Er...that man there is Eutrope's─ I mean, that's the champion of the cruiserweight division. Yaana: This poses a problem. We can't reveal the truth with him here...
Brute Bomber: The blazes are you doing here!? You want to get your arses kicked!?
Gentle Man: You are Forename, the unenhanced warrior, yes? Howling Blade: The Howling Blade, at your service. It's a pleasure to meet you, and I hope we have the chance to meet in the ring soon.
What will you say? > The pleasure's all mine. > You'll be the “Whimpering Blade” when I'm finished with you! > ...
< You'll be the “Whimpering Blade” when I'm finished with you! > Howling Blade: You're rather more spirited than I expected. I didn't have the impression that you were also a “heel.”
Howling Blade: Lest you wonder, I do not make a habit of wearing a regulator. My parents didn't believe in using them. Howling Blade: Yaana and her sisters were raised with similar values, as I recall, before adapting at Eutrope's insistence. Howling Blade: However, I still use a regulator in battle like every fighter─except you. Yaana: I...er, didn't know the two of you were friends.
Howling Blade: Surprised that a reviled heel like him and a beloved face like me get along? Truth is, we've known each other since childhood. We just can't seem to be rid of each other. Howling Blade: We both couldn't fit into any of the jobs that were introduced to us, and got up to all manner of mischief together. We would've likely carried on like that if the president of Ascension Arcadia hadn't come and taken us in. Howling Blade: Though it isn't easy being a fighter, we felt like it was our calling. Believe it or not, he used to be so shy that he could hardly form a sentence. But when he became the Brute Bomber, it was as if he was reborn.
Brute Bomber: Sh-Shut up! They don't need to know that!
Howling Blade: Thinking back, we owe everything to the Arcadion. To the president.
Brute Bomber: ...That we do.
Howling Blade: Well, I've seen the kittens as I had intended, so I'll take my leave now. Howling Blade: Till next time, Forename.
Brute Bomber: ...So what do you want?
Yaana: There's something you need to know...
Brute Bomber: Lies! The president would never!
Neyuni: I have the results of the examination... I'm afraid his soul already shows signs of psychonekrosis.
Brute Bomber: What!? That's nonsense! Brute Bomber: Urgh...
Neyuni: As the soul is eaten away, it loses its connection to the body, leading to bouts of intense dizziness─the early symptoms of the disease. If left unchecked, the body will continue to weaken until...
Yaana: The Arcadion means a lot to you, I know. It means a lot to me too. Yaana: But you need to retire. You're already ill. Until we can find a cure, the only way to prevent your condition from worsening is to stop fighting.
Brute Bomber: Enough! I won't listen to any more of your nonsense! Get out of my sight!
Yaana: We've done what we could. It's up to him what he does now. Let's go home.
Optional Dialogue
Neyuni: It was difficult to tell Mister Brute his diagnosis...
Speak with Yaana at Tritails Training (cutscene)
Yaana: Not only Eutrope, but the Brute Bomber too... We need to find a cure as soon as we can.
Neyuni: According to Eutrope, the remedy is an infusion of an extremely dense soul. That's why she targeted you. Neyuni: The data from Origenics seems to support this. Though it was only a hypothesis, the researchers believed reinforcement from a dense soul could be an effective treatment. But this isn't the solution we seek. Neyuni: We'll find another way! I'll scour an ocean of data if I have to!
Yaana: For all her searching, Eutrope could only find the one cure... Yaana: Still, something about her actions doesn't sit right with me. The Eutrope I know wouldn't think to save herself at the cost of someone else's life. I can't help but feel she's still hiding something... Yaana: Hello? ...Ah, alright. Understood. Yaana: That was Metem. Cruiserweight matches are ready to begin, and he wants us to meet him in the greenroom.
Neyuni: Then best of luck with your next match, Miss/Mister Forename, and please be safe!
Optional Dialogue
Neyuni: Please leave the search for a cure to me, and focus only on the coming match!
Speak with the Arcadion attendant
Arcadion Attendant: We've been awaiting your arrival, Forename. Allow me to show you to the greenroom.
Cutscene
Boisterous Binger: Ah, here he is at last! Now the party can truly begin!
Defiant Damsel: That's better. This drab room was begging for a touch of color. Defiant Damsel: Love your work, by the way. A match with you is sure to be a font of inspiration.
Boisterous Binger: We're going to get down, you and I! Oh, yes we are!
Metem: As you'll have surmised, they are your rivals in the cruiserweight division. And I understand you're already acquainted with the champion... Metem: I am counting on you to captivate the audience once more with rousing combat, and make the very walls of the Arcadion shake with excitement!
Speak with Yaana
Yaana: The fighters in this division are characters too, eh? But there's far more to them than their showmanship. Yaana: As you already know, cruiserweight fighters utilize more potent feral souls. Their attacks pack a heavier punch, so you'll need to brace yourself and be fully prepared!
