Thaumaturge is a Disciples of Magic class that specializes in destructive magic of Fire, Blizzard and Thunder. Armed with scepter or staff, thaumaturges can wreck havoc with their spells and curses.

At level 30, thaumaturge can acquire the job Black Mage.

  • Additionally, level 15 pugilist is required to unlock black mage.

Thaumaturge's Guild is in the desert city of Ul'dah. If you choose thaumaturge as your first class, you will start off in the city of Ul'dah.

Mechanics

When thaumaturge casts a Fire spell, he acquires the Astral Fire buff. The buff increases the damage and MP cost of his fire spells and reduces damage and MP cost of his ice spells. His MP regen also stops. When thaumaturge casts a Blizzard spell, he acquires the Umbral Ice buff. The buff reduces the MP cost and damage of fire spells and increases his MP regen. If the thaumaturge casts a ice spell while he has the Astral Fire buff, the buff will be removed. If the thaumaturge casts a fire spell while he has an Umbral Ice buff on, the buff will be removed.

For tons of damage, players should spam Fire spells till his or her MP is low. Then use Transpose to swap Astral Fire for Umbral Ice for massive MP regen. When the player's MP is full, use Transpose again to swap Umbral Ice for Astral Fire to resume flaming bombardment.

  • MP Cost is based on a level 1 character. As you level up, MP Cost of spells will increase.

Traits

Enhanced Intelligence 8 Increases Intelligence by 2.
Enhanced Intelligence II 14 Increases Intelligence by 4.
Enhanced Surecast 16 Grants a 15% chance that upon use, Surecast will have no recast time.
Enhanced Aetherial Damage 20 Increased base action damage by 10% and allows for the stacking of a second Astral Fire or Umbral Ice.
Enhanced Scathe 24 Grants 20% chance that Scathe will deal double damage.
Thundercloud 28 Grants a 5% chance that after each damage over time tick inflicted by any Thunder spell, the next Thunder, Thunder II, or Thunder III will add its full damage over time amount to its initial damage, have no cast time and cost no MP.
Enhanced Intelligence III 32 Increases Intelligence by 6.
Deep Sleep 36 Extends the area of effect for Sleep from a single target to a five yard radius.
Increased Aetherial Damage II 40 Increases base action damage by 30% and allows for the stacking of a third Astral Fire or Umbral Ice.
Firestarter 44 Grants a 30% chance that upon casting Fire, your next Fire III will require no MP and have no casting time.
Enhanced Manaward 48 Increases damage nullified by Manaward to 30% of your maximum HP.

Lore

In the hands of a skilled practitioner, thaumaturgy can be a force of terrifying destruction. At the heart of this school of magic lies the ability to call forth and command the latent aether within oneself through deep introspection.

To then mold that aether into sorcery, the thaumaturge makes use of a scepter or staff, within which is housed a medium—a natural stone imbued with magical properties. Thus armed, the thaumaturge is capable of wreaking considerable havoc via ruinous spells and curses.[1]
