Rissai-juku is a landmark in The Doman Enclave, Othard. It is a school, primarily for local children.[1] The name is an homage to Rissai, a samurai who, upon his retirement, built a school to serve children from all walks of life—a deviation from the norms of the time, when only the children of samurai or families of high social standing were educated. The school's current headteacher, Minazuki, was one of Rissai's students, who continued as a teacher at the school, before the Garlean Empire closed the school and banned the studying of Doman history and traditions during their occupation.[2]

Lore

Though he had a reputation as a samurai of rare skill with blades and firearms alike, the eponymous founder also possessed extensive knowledge in a number of subjects owing to his love of books. After decades of faithful service to the Rijin, he left his post and opened a school with his own funds. Now that it has been rebuilt, he can once more devote his energies to educating the children of the enclave.
