For many years, scholars believed these creatures to simply be megalocrabs upon whose shells coral had naturally taken root. However, extensive observation by a pair of Hingan naturalists has come to see those claims disproven. The coral is transplanted by the crabs from reefs onto their shells, where it is "cultivated" into a camouflage that aids the wavekin in hunting.
