Steps

Journal

  • Kuiyki is eager to discuss new developments with you.
  • Kuiyki informs you that an old friend, Cirina, has come to visit you. The hunter brings the Mol maiden before you, but even you have grown wary of impostors, and attempt to prove her identity with a simple question. She provides a satisfactory answer, then explains the reason for her visit: Samidare appeared in the Azim Steppe, once more assuming your form in an attempt to incite war between the tribes and Doma. While his initial scheme failed, you and Kuiyki suspect he may still be in the area, and Cirina encourages a visit to Reunion to gather information.
  • You speak with a number of merchants, and learn one interesting tidbit of information: Magnai has been acting strangely. Kuiyki will wish to hear of this.
  • You soon learn Kuiyki has also heard similar rumors, including one that Magnai was recently seen entering Bardam's Mettle. It seems beyond doubt that Samidare now wears Magnai's face, and is unquestionably up to no good. Kuiyki cautions you to see to your preparations, as once you enter, the final battle will ensue.
  • You make for Bardam's Mettle, yet nothing in all the shards combined could have prepared you for the sight that greets your eyes: Sadu and Magnai engaging in what appears to be a disturbing tryst. As you watch, you notice that each word Sadu utters is more unnatural than the last, and quickly discern that Samidare has taken on her form. You attempt to alert Magnai to this fact, but he is knocked out from behind before he has a chance to react. Samidare has lost patience with your frequent interventions, and takes on the late I'toca's form as you engage in battle.
  • Despite transforming into a series of fearsome fighters and finally the guardian of Doma herself, Samidare is no match for you and the sharp-eyed Kuiyki. Seeing victory is out of the cards, he attempts to flee, but is shot down by Kuiyki, who at long last fulfills her promise to I'toca. Magnai, meanwhile, intends to make sure Samidare is punished for his crimes─and the shadow of shame he has cast over the Sun. With the Dreamweave Cocoon reclaimed at last, Kuiyki knows that the long journey home must begin─though she is uncertain how she will be greeted.
  • As it was Shashepya who originally requested your aid, Kuiyki suggests you return to Tuliyollal together to let her know the cocoon has been reclaimed.
  • Shashepya is surprised to see you return alone, but soon Kuiyki arrives to explain all. Shashepya is dismayed to learn of what befell I'toca, but is relieved Kuiyki has returned safely with the cocoon in hand. Yet Kuiyki insists her accomplishments will never bring I'toca back, nor pardon her failures, and so vows to exile herself. Shashepya rejects this immediately, reassuring Kuiyki that the forest is her home. Kuiyki eventually acquiesces to Shashepya, and thanks you for all you have done. She may not be her village's greatest hunter, but she is at least a hunter now worthy of the title. With the hope that your paths may one day cross again, she sets off with Shashepya to make her long overdue return home.

Dialogue

Accepting the Quest

Kuiyki: Your timing could not have been more impeccable, Forename! A person claiming to be an acquaintance of yours stopped by just moments ago, wishing to have a word─about Samidare, no less.
Kuiyki: They're presently waiting in my room, so give me just a moment and I'll bring them here.
Cirina: You look well, Forename. Forgive me for eschewing pleasantries, but there is an urgent matter I wish to discuss.
What will you say?
> When we first met in Reunion, what did you purchase at the market?
> What did we eat the night before our trial in Bardam's Mettle?
< When we first met in Reunion, what did you purchase at the market? >
Cirina: Kinsai, as I recall. I had insufficient funds to purchase it myself, so you helped me gather whisperroot to trade for it instead.
< What did we eat the night before our trial in Bardam's Mettle? >
Cirina: Ah, I believe we feasted on gulo gulo meat. You and Hien competed to see who could bring back the greater haul.
Cirina: It would seem you, too, have grown wary of impostors. Then we can proceed straight into the heart of the matter.
Cirina: You appeared in Mol Iloh a few days ago, claiming Hien had been driven to madness. That he was assembling an army in Doma with plans to conquer the Azim Steppe.
Cirina: For a blessing, we'd already received word from a Doman envoy that an agitator was mimicking others, and saw the ruse for what it was.
Cirina: Unfortunately, when we attempted to capture them, the impostor transformed into a sheep and disappeared among the bands grazing on the plains.
Cirina: When I informed our friends in Doma of the incident, I was told you have been using Kugane as a base to track down the perpetrator, and thought it best I apprise you of this happening.
Kuiyki: Samidare... He won't relent. His schemes won't end until we make them end.
Cirina: You may discover a clue as to his whereabouts in Reunion. If anyone in the Steppe has seen him, that is where they will be.
Cirina: Now, I must alert the other tribes to this threat. May the winds speed your way.
Kuiyki: Off to the Azim Steppe, then. With any luck, someone in Reunion will have insight to offer.

Optional Dialogue

Kuiyki: Once more am I reminded of Xak Tural. I cannot help but feel at home among those who also live alongside nature.
Cirina: Samidare will find the Azim Steppe unreceptive to his overtures for war.

Gather information in Reunion

Botokhui

Botokhui: Someone stirring up trouble? A quarrel among the tribes is as common as the rising sun. Not a day goes by without it.
Botokhui: Now, if you will excuse me, I have goods to sell. Kindly continue your inquiries elsewhere.

Optional Dialogue

Botokhui: Stories of quarrels in this land are as common as grazing sheep. Perhaps someone else can help you.

Suvd

Suvd: Conflict is forbidden in Reunion. This is known. As for my tribe, all is at peace.
Suvd: I heard a rumor of interest, however. It seems Magnai of the Oronir has been behaving strangely of late. Perhaps that is related to the matter you are investigating?

Optional Dialogue

Suvd: Consider looking into the rumors about Magnai. You may find what you're looking for at the end of that trail.

Yesui

Yesui: Conflict? Naught besides the normal quarrels between tribes. Certainly no disputes on the scale you speak of.
Yesui: But I have heard rumors that Magnai has been sneaking out from the Dawn Throne. Where could he be going, and to do what, I wonder...?

Optional Dialogue

Yesui: What could Magnai be up to, I wonder...

Speak with Kuiyki

Kuiyki: Were you able to learn anything of interest?
Kuiyki: I've also heard the rumors pertaining to this Magnai. One person even stated they saw him headed towards a place called Bardam's Mettle not long ago.
Kuiyki: Mayhap his is the form Samidare has chosen to take on.
Kuiyki: Whatever the case may be, we'll find the answer at Bardam's Mettle. We can't allow Samidare's depravities to go on any longer. Steel yourself, for when next we face him, we're putting an end to all of this.
