Unukalhai would have you face the Lord of the Mists once more.

Walkthrough

The North American and European datacenters primarily use Party Finder to challenge (Extreme) content. Using Duty Finder to match with random players is not recommended and will be more difficult than pre-forming a party. Note that despite the quest text, players only need to complete the trial using any means, not necessarily with Duty Finder matchmaking, to complete the quest. For an easy completion, it is recommended that players use Party Finder and form an Unrestricted Party (i.e., with level sync disabled). Players who wish to complete this duty with level sync enabled should also form a pre-made party, which also enables the use of Minimum Item Level and Silence Echo settings for an additional challenge.

Steps

Journal

  • Unukalhai would have you face the Lord of the Mists once more.
  • To prevent the awakening of the Warring Triad, Bismarck must be cast down once more, and Unukalhai declares that you shall slay him using the same method as before. The boy then furnishes you with a large gemstone and bids you show it to Chief Sonu of the Zundu, in case he is feeling reluctant to give you all that you require.
  • Chief Sonu believes the gemstone in your possession is a relic of great power. If smashed against a Vundu aetheryte nestled in the Whale's Crown, it will render Bismarck vulnerable... Yet, upon further reflection, you recall no mention of the white whale's newfound invulnerability prior to this. That said, if the primal does have some form of protection, it will need to be circumvented before he can be defeated. Inform Cid of your new task.
  • Cid seems poised to explain in detail how Chief Sonu's request makes no sense whatsoever. However, he instead hazards that it might bring you good luck.
  • With all your might, you smash the gemstone against the aetheryte...and nothing much happens. Out of habit, you attune with the aetheryte...and again, nothing much happens. If your actions had any meaning, it remains to be seen. In any case, Cid is waiting.
    • ※The Limitless Blue (Extreme) can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • The floating isles and their inhabitants need no longer fear a grisly end in the White's belly, as the ravenous flying whale has once more been returned to the aether. Chief Sonu should be glad to hear of your latest triumph.
  • Chief Sonu reveals that in returning to Ok' Zundu with the Weeping Eye of the Manukmanai, you were fulfilling an ancient prophecy. Legend has it that a Vanu elder once cast the eyes into the Sea of Clouds, proclaiming that they would return to the Vanu in the possession of a hero, who would then deliver them from destruction. And so, your battle with the White shall be preserved and passed down from generation to generation, doubtless growing greater with each telling...
  • Your victory was written in the aether, and Unukalhai read it long before you returned. Yet you know all too well not to rejoice overmuch in the accomplishment, for such threats are wont to return again and again.

Dialogue

Speak with Unukalhai in the Solar (Accepting the Quest)

Unukalhai: If we are to prevent the awakening of the Warring Triad, then Bismarck must be cast down once more.
Unukalhai: I am aware of the rather unorthodox method you employed to lure out and slay the white whale before, and had a mind to follow established precedent.
Unukalhai: That said, islands are not easy to come by...
Unukalhai: I should hope it is not necessary, but you may as well show this gemstone to Chief Sonu. He will know it as the Weeping Eye of the Manukmanai, and it will ensure that he is completely committed to our cause.
Unukalhai: Oh, and before you ask, I have already informed Master Garlond of our plans. He is currently en route to the Blue Window.

Speak with Sonu Vanu at the Ok'Zun

Sonu Vanu: The tramontane returns, and with it the White. So too comes the great netherling warrior...
Sonu Vanu: Like double rainbows in the mists, Sonu knows not what to make of this! An eye in the hands of a netherling!
Sonu Vanu: Storm clouds of the Vundu are no match for the eye's might! Smash it against the aetheryte in the Whale's Crown and He will be vulnerable once more!
Sonu Vanu: Bind Him with chains of steel and drive Him from cloud sea! Return zephyr winds and sunlight to our lands!

Speak with Cid

Cid: There you are, [Forename]. The Enterprise Excelsior is ready to depart whenever you are.
Cid: ...Say again? Chief Sonu wants you to smash some gemstone against an aetheryte to dispel a barrier of storm clouds? I, uh...I don't even know where to begin...
Cid: Bah, the hells with it. Maybe it'll bring us good luck. I'll rendezvous with you there.
(optional)
Cid: You know, you could just lie and say you did it. ...What? <sigh> Fine, we'll do it the hard way.

At Whale's Crown (Unlocking The Limitless Blue (Extreme))

System: After a pause, you smash the gemstone against the aetheryte. Nothing much happens. Out of habit, you attune with the aetheryte...and once more, nothing much happens.

Return to Sonu Vanu at the Ok'Zun

Sonu Vanu: As storm clouds give way to sunlight, so hope returns to Zundu, and clarity of vision to Sonu.
Sonu Vanu: Sonu sees netherling for who she truly is. Netherling is bearer foretold.
Sonu Vanu: Once, long ago, in the midst of a great battle with a tribe from the nethers, a horrid, wicked demon comes to feast on the bodies of the fallen.
Sonu Vanu: Manukmanai, we name him! Manukmanai, we decry him! For generations he hunts the Vanu Vanu, but this day, we say no more!
Sonu Vanu: Greatest of our heroes climbs atop the beast's back, and with blades black as midnight, she rips his eyes from his head, and casts them into cloud sea!
Sonu Vanu: "In hour of great need, eyes return to the Vanu. Look to their bearer for salvation.“ So she declares, so it comes to pass! And now, netherling's deeds we remember forevermore!

Return to Unukalhai in the Solar (Cutscene)

Unukalhai: You needn't say a word. The aetheric readings left no doubt: the Lord of the Mists is no more.
(If Warrior of Light did not challenged Ravana in Thok ast Thok (Extreme) yet...)
???
(If Warrior of Light challenged and defeated both Bismarck in The Limitless Blue (Extreme) and Ravana in Thok ast Thok (Extreme)...)
Unukalhai: And thus has his essence joined that of the Lord of the Hive in its return unto the land.
Unukalhai: You have my gratitude, Warrior of Light. Without your valiant efforts, these primal terrors would have invited devastation on a cataclysmic scale.
Unukalhai: ...For unlike others of their ilk, Bismarck and Ravana both harbor the desire─and the power─to reach Azys Lla.
Unukalhai: It is with dreadful certainty that I sensed their intent to feed on the strength of the Warring Triad, and thereby amplify their own power by an order of magnitude.
Unukalhai: By what wisdom do I claim such certainty? I am gifted with... How shall I put this? An intimate knowledge of the primal mind.
Unukalhai: You are curious, I am sure. But you need not understand the nature of a power to use it, do you? It is much the same with the Echo, I imagine.
Unukalhai: Ah, the realm of Eorzea... Ever has it been a land embraced by gods. For weal or for woe, I should wonder.
Unukalhai: For the time being, I shall remain here in the Rising Stones, and assist Urianger with his research into the eikons. If you should require aught further of me...simply ask.
