After the Calamity claimed the lives of his parents, he renounced his lineage—though only after finding a new home for his family’s former retainers. Though he holds Aymeric and his efforts to cleanse Ishgard of corruption in high esteem, seeing the lowborn he would protect gaining power and influence of their own leaves him with conflicted emotions.
