The Qerel are one of the Xaela tribes from the Azim Steppe, who normally occupy a permanent encampment in The Towering Still. Although in-game they have few representatives, their history and mysteries play an important role in the story of the Warrior class quests for levels 60-70, plus an additional quest at Level 80.
“
The nature of the tragedy which befell the Qerel is unclear, but some claim that their settlement was destroyed by a group of exiles who declared themselves the Chaghan. Regardless of its veracity, the tale serves as an example of the harsh fates which may befall any given Xaela tribe.

“
The warriors of this tribe all wear complete suits of armor crafted from the bones of steppe tigers which they kill with their own hands upon their coming of age.

History
The Taken
Dialogue clipped from assorted quests.
Dorgono: I am Dorgono of the Qerel. My home is...was...on the Azim Steppe in lands far to the east. We are unmatched in the ways of the axe. We are a strong people. At times too strong. There are ones like me, consumed by this thing you call the inner beast, the will of Karash. We are
the Taken, cursed with an insatiable thirst for violence. [...] The Taken are sentenced to exile. That is why I traveled west, to train further in the way of the axe. If I can overcome this affliction, I may have a chance for redemption.
The Fate of Qerel Iloh
Dorgono: The Qerel settlement was attacked, but I was too late. This is all there was to be seen when I arrived. You needn't worry, though. They escaped. I managed to track them back to Reunion. Upon finding them, however, I was greeted with looks of fear and disgust. They would only suffer me long enough to explain the will of Karash is to blame for their woes.
The exiles of Qerel have created a clan of their own─the
Chaghan. They offered me shelter when I was first cast out. Where the Qerel see the will of Karash as a source of rack and ruin, the Chaghan praise it as a blessing from the Dusk Mother. They commit all manner of heinous acts when Karash takes hold. Some would even slay their own kin and claim it in the name of the Mother. I could not abide their savagery and soon left. Still, my people mistake me for one of the Chaghan now.

Communication Methods
Dorgono: No matter how many he sent, I would have never responded.
Our people have no written tongue. Whatever reached us was probably fed to the goats.
Healers in Qerel Society
Luvsan: Many a Qerel has suffered a grievous injury which rendered them unable to fight. But I am a
boo─a healer, and I can help you to wield your axe once more. [...] This treatment requires a quantity of shivermoss.
Gestures of Appreciation
Luvsan: Well do I know how difficult my daughter can be, and so I wish to present you with a gift as an expression of my gratitude. I am told you would have no use for horses, but what about fifty goats?
