Much like the Fourth Astral Era, the Fifth Umbral Era is completely shrouded in mystery, as no written records exist of that time, thanks in part to the church's efforts to prevent the people of Eorzea from becoming learned. The only remaining records of that time are fables and legends passed through the oral tradition. They speak of an onslaught of ice and snow, and never ending storms. The cold reached the very core of the land, preventing the growth of any crops. Wildlife and people alike perished en masse, and even the seas froze over, preventing fishing or retrieving goods from the ocean. The frozen sea did however enable migration, out of Eorzea at the beginning of the Umbral Era, and back into the realm following the beginning of the Fifth Astral Era. What remained of the written text and scriptures formed the current written language of Eorzea, and gave the letters to each of the twenty six Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te tribes who came over from Ilsabard when the storms and driving snow finally began to cease.
