- This article is about the class of currencies. For the emote, see Tomestone (Emote).
Allagan Tomestones are endgame tokens that can be exchanged for various endgame gear. Players can obtain Allagan Tomestones by completing dungeons, trials, Duty Roulette, and virtually every other endgame duty.
These tokens can be traded in Endgame Hubs and to the various representatives of Rowena for powerful combat equipment after completing certain Main Scenario Quest requirements. However, the whims of Rowena's market are fickle. Frequently, older tomestones will become obsolete and she will begin trading new equipment for new tomestones. (This happens every even-numbered major patch, or roughly every 8 months.) Obsolete tomestones are tradeable to Auriana in Mor Dhona (X:22.7 Y:6.7) for current tomes at a reduced rate for a limited time (until the next tomestone rotation).
There are two caps on tomestones:
- The current most recently-introduced type of tomestone usually has a weekly limit of 450 earned per week
- Players are limited to 2000 of each tomestone at once.

History of tomestones
Allagan Tomestone Items
To buy armour and accessories, you only need the currencies listed above. But to buy weapons, you additionally need a special tomestone item.
※ Beginning with patch 5.3, all older tomestone items have been removed, to streamline the purchase process and reduce inventory clutter. Those weapons can still be bought, but now only cost Poetics — no additional item required. Current expansion weapons still require the items.
Irregular Tomestones
Beginning with Shadowbringers, the game has hosted periodic Moogle Treasure Trove Events, where certain duties pay a special type of irregular tomestone. These "tomestones" are normal items that go to your inventory, and are exclusively exchanged at one of three Itinerant Moogles in the starting cities.
Most events feature one limited-time item: typically a lighthearted accessory, such as the Namazu Earring. The events also include a variety of rare, hard-to-get, or no-longer-attainable items, such as mounts from extreme trials or the Falcon — or simply items that the developers wish to spotlight, such as contest-winning outfits and furniture. This makes these events useful as a catchup mechanism for collectors who may have missed the boat on older items.
Moogle Treasure Trove events always happen in the leadup to a patch. The names of each irregular tomestone follows the same order as the previous 'real' tomestones, with the exception of Poetics which was skipped entirely (presumably because Poetics is still an active tome).
