Endgame Healing Tips and Tricks
- Your most important substats are Critical Hit and Determination. Critical Hit will increase the chance and potency of crit heals, and determination will slightly increase every heal. Meld Vitality on your accessories as well if you feel you need extra health. Avoid Piety as White Mage has good MP management.
- Always have these role actions on: Swiftcast, Largesse, Esuna, and Lucid Dreaming. It is a good idea to have Swiftcast in a macro with Raise. Rescue is good in niche situations like The Pool of Tribute (Extreme) and The Minstrel's Ballad: Tsukuyomi's Pain where party members can easily mess up positioning. Surecast is good in fights with knockback mechanics such as Sigmascape V1.0. Eye for an Eye is good for extra tank defense if you need nothing else. Put Protect on at the beginning of an instance and switch it out with another role action before the pull.
- Lucid Dreaming and Thin Air are your main MP management tools. Use one or both when you get to around half MP, as well as using Lucid Dreaming when you generate too much aggro.
- Don't overheal - this creates unnecessary enmity and wastes MP. Don't cast heal over time spells such as Regen before pulls, as enemies will instantly aggro onto you.
- As a White Mage, you have 3 heal over time abilities: Regen, Medica II, and Asylum. Keep these up on the main tank as often as possible. Regen is also your most MP efficient healing gcd.
- Know the range of Medica and Medica II - The range of Medica and Medica II is 15 and 20 yalms respectively. Players should run close enough to their allies for those abilities to reach them and not run too close and waste time and movement.
- Save Plenary Indulgence for stacking damage or room-wide attacks. It reduces the amount of MP and casting time you need to spend to heal through these.
- Recognize debuffs on party members and esuna them if needed - Debuffs appear as retangular arrow pointing downward on allies' status bars. Learn what the debuffs are for different occasions and know which ones should be removed with esuna.
- Cure I should be your primary heal spell and you should be keeping your tank topped off at 90-95% while letting Regen do its work on the rest. Use Cure II whenever you gain the effect of "Freecure" or if the tank goes below 50-70%. If you know a strong attack is coming, cast Divine Benison.
- Cure II is not your main healing spell - While Cure II is very potent, it uses a lot of MP. Spamming Cure II will quickly exhaust your MP. Use Cure as much as you can. Only use Cure II when your target is below 60% HP or when Freecure is procd.
- Cure III can be used as an AoE spell - Cure III will not only heal your target but also all players around your target. It is useful to heal a group of players that are not near you.
- Use Largesse primarily when reoccuring major raid damage applies and plan when to put it on cooldown, for example, during Ahk Morn as seen in Alphascape 2.0 or the first add phase of Seiryu (Extreme). All heal over time ticks stay buffed by Largesse as long as it is used while the caster is still buffed with it. This also means that casting Regen then using Largesse will result in your current Regen NOT being buffed.
- Use potions - Note that Mind Potion has same effect on Regen as Largesse. Be sure to cast Regen while you are buffed. Use ethers to regain MP or right after being raised to regain a lot of MP.
- Buffs and potions are off global cooldown - Using a buff or potion will make you unable to cast spells for the next second or so. Using buffs and potions during a time when you can't cast spells will fully utilize your efficiency.
- As of Stormblood, White Mage has the highest healing output. Your focus should be the tanks. Keep your heal over time spells and Divine Benison on the main tank as often as possible. If an ally needs urgent attention and your co-healer cannot get to them, use regen or Tetragrammaton on them.
- Benediction should be saved for emergencies only, as it has a 3 minute cooldown.
- Even though you are a healer, you are expected to contribute to the party's dps. Apply Aero III and Aero II whenever they are about to run out. Weave in as many Stone IVs to your healing as you can manage.
- Presence of Mind can be used for both dps and healing.
- Use Assize whenever it is off cooldown. Not only is it free damage and AoE healing, it restores 10% of your MP as well.
- Repose and Fluid Aura are useless. It's best to take them off your hotbar.
- Presence of Mind + Thin Air + Holy spam is great for dealing with add phases with lots of clumped adds, but make sure you won't need either cooldown during or after.
