Additional Information
Deities, also referred to as Gods are part of the main process of creating your character and has a little more impact on your character – at least in the end game – than your character’s actual race. From a simple first look the deities don’t provide anything too special, but in the long run, depending on your chosen class the deity/god that you choose are going to be a useful addition to your character in one way or the other.
In Final Fantasy XIV there are 12 different deities that you can choose from before you embark upon your adventure. Each one of these 12 deities represent one of the months inside the game, but that sort of information is more to make lore-buffs enjoy the game a little more; but to your average player it’s not going to be anything actually worth your time or effort to know.
Enough about just talking about these gods and let’s delve straight onto them and what it is they can do for you and your character.
The list of their names is as follows:
- Halone, the Fury
- Menphina, the Lover
- Thaliak, the Scholar
- Nymeia, the Spinner
- Llymlaen, the Navigator
- Oschon, the Wanderer
- Byregot, the Builder
- Rhalgr, the Destroyer
- Azeyma, the Warden
- Nald’thal, the Traders
- Nophica, the Matron
- Althyk, the Keeper
Depending on which god you pick, you will gain a form of elemental resistance. These resistances can come in the form of fire, ice, wind, earth, lightning, and also water. Every single god has a stat number of 50 to 54, varying accordingly to make each god that little bit more varied to the last, but not by a large margin even in the slightest.
The way these stats works is to take for instance Halone, the god of Fury - his elemental resistance for each element is:
- Fire – 50
- Ice – 54
- Wind – 53
- Earth – 52
- Lightning – 52
- Water – 52
You notice how each one varies between 50 and 54? Every single god works in this same way, so while there may only be a short increase of fire resistance for Halone; his ice resistance is higher than everything else so it manages to balance things out.
Once again, the same can be said for someone like Althyk, the Keeper – the resistance for each element is in the same sort of range as the previous god, it’s just jumbled around a little bit more and can be seen as such:
- Fire – 52
- Ice – 52
- Wind – 52
- Earth – 54
- Lightning – 53
- Water – 50
Just by looking at how small of a variance there is between these two gods, it just goes to show just how little of an effect these deities can have on each individual character. Even with that knowledge, however, it doesn’t hurt to pick a certain god depending on your class, just to make the most out of their potential for the end game.
If I’m being honest, however, there are ultimately only a couple of classes that see any long term benefit from picking a certain god. Here are the two classes, along with the god’s that they work in cooperation with:
- Conjurer – Althyk/Nopica (higher earth resistance and some wind) and Lymlaea/Oschon (higher wind resistance, along with some wind)
- Thaumaturge – Azeyma/Nald’thal (a decent amount of both fire and ice resistance)
Other than those two classes, picking which deity you’d prefer to have isn’t required; nor is picking it for those two classes, but they are the only two that do see some small resemblance of a bonus later on in the game.
While I must admit that the addition of the gods/deities are a nice way of sneaking in some extra elemental resistances for your character; most of the time they simply become an extra necessity that doesn’t have too much of an impact on the overall build or playstyle of your character. While it may be nice to have them, at times it does feel like they aren’t really required; yet, if it means my character is going to be a little more resilient then I don’t think I can complain too much.
