==Key Locations==
==Occupying Key Locations==
Players can identify Key Locations by identifying outposts and [[Allagan]] ruins with flags in them. At the beginning of the match, all of the flags will be white, indicating they are unclaimed. As players stand next to the flags, a gauge will appear and slowly fill based on the number of players on a team standing within the flag's circle. However, the outpost can not be claimed if there are players from an enemy team standing in the circle as well. Once a team has occupied a location, the flag will change to represent what team holds the area. These areas can be returned to neutral (white) and taken by another team if enemy players stand in the flag's ring uncontested. The more locations a team has, the quicker their tactical rating will increase.
Key locations such as outposts and [[Allagan]] ruins can be identified by flags, indicating the Grand Company that currently controls them. At the start of each match, all locations will be unoccupied. By remaining in close proximity to the flags at these locations, players can occupy them to improve their team's tactical rating. However, these areas may turn neutral should enemies come within proximity of a flag controlled by your team, or vice versa.

A team's tactical rating will increase by a fixed amount upon claiming key locations, and will continue to increase over time for every location that remains occupied by their Grand Company.
During the match, players will see a textbox flash across the screen stating "The Heliodrome's matter displacer has been activated!". This will happen after the first minute of the match, then every 4 minutes after all the drones are defeated. Teams are awarded points to their tactical rating based on how much damage they dealt to the Drones. Eventually a large Interceptor Drone will spawn in the center of the arena after the drones are defeated, and players must attack it in order to increase their tactical rating.

Borderlands (Secure)

While many will remember the Calamity for the destruction it wrought upon the realm of Eorzea, that destruction was not without its blessings-one of those being the uncovering of ancient Allagan ruins hidden underneat the war-scarred Carteneau Flats and heretofore unseen for several Astral Eras. When an attempt by the Grand Companies of Eorzea to determine the control of these ruins, and more importantly the secrets they contain, through peaceful negotiations ended in failure, the city-states instead elected to solve the issue of dominion using a form of civilized warfare dubbed the Frontline.

— In-game Description

The Borderland Ruins (Secure) is a 24-V-24-V-24 Frontline battle added in Patch 2.3 where players must capture and hold select regions to gain a specified tactical rating before time runs out. Before other Frontline maps were added, it was common to refer to this map as just Frontline or Carteneau Flats.

Victory conditions

In order to win, players must reach a specified tactical rating to win. This can be done in one of three ways:

  • Defeating opponents
  • Capturing key locations
  • Defeating monsters.

If none of the three alliances reach the specified tactical rating before time runs out, victory is determined by whichever team has the highest tactical rating.

Occupying Key Locations

Key locations such as outposts and Allagan ruins can be identified by flags, indicating the Grand Company that currently controls them.

Occupying these locations will prove key to victory, as this greatly affects your tactical rating.

  • The number of flags on the field will depend on the number of participants matched for combat.

Engaging Opposing Teams

Incapacitating opposing players will also increase your team's tactical rating.

Defeating Monsters

Monsters will appear on the field periodically. Slaying them will also improve your team's tactical rating.

An icon will appear on the map 30 seconds before enemies spawn.
