Alisaie:
* After the cutscene with Alphinaud, the Endwalker buff representing the burdens of walking alone to your journey's end will be applied and your movement speed will be slowed to a walk. You will be tasked with walking to the final confrontation at Absolute Horizon.
* Whatever Meteion may have said, we should confirm it with our own eyes. We need to have a look around.
* Along the way you will meet unnamed shades offering encouraging advice. Approach a shade to hear its quote. All statements are direct quotations from various Main Scenario Quests in the previous expansions (see below). You can walk right past these shades if you like directly to the stairs, the ones on the stairs and past will speak regardless.
* The next cutscene will begin automatically upon reaching Absolute Horizon.

Alphinaud:

* Indeed. At the very least, it doesn't appear to be a sprawling place like those before. If we split up, it shouldn't take too long to cover the area.

Journal
* Player, take a look at this. If the road was a little longer, we could take it to just beneath the dead sun.
*If Alisaie is discouraged, she betrays no hint of it.
* But I suppose this is where the reconstruction ends...
* How about you? Did you find anything of interest?
* I see. I noticed the same things─cups left upon tables, chairs out of place... I don't know what happened here, but I do know I don't want to be alone anymore...
* We've searched enough for now. Let's find Alphinaud and compare what we've learned.

Alphinaud:
* Did you find anything?

Alisaie:
* No. This place is completely deserted, and I can't see how we're supposed to move on from here.

Alphinaud:
* Neither can I. It's quite the quandary...
* There are no denizens to bar our path, yet there is no way forward.

Alisaie:
* For another mystery, we did find signs of very recent life. You'd swear everyone just vanished into thin air.
* I wonder, how many ruined worlds like this has Meteion seen?

Alphinaud:
* Could it be...? Yes... Yes, I believe I may have puzzled this out.
* Despite how it appears, it's no different this time. There is someone here who has wished for this ruin.
* And I believe that, together, Alisaie and I can overcome their will.
* I'm afraid it has to be done. For our comrades, for everyone on Etheirys...and for myself.
* I will not pretend otherwise. I have my fears.
* Not for myself, but for you. The last to remain.
* You are no stranger to carrying the burden of others.
* But I can only imagine how heavy the weight would be this time.
* As your friend, I cannot bear the thought of making you suffer so.

Alisaie:
* Then why suggest such a thing!?
* It's too much to ask of anyone─even her!
* Why must she be the one? Why must she fight alone?
* More than a hero, she's a dear friend.
* Not only to us, but to so many others. There are so many people in the world who care for you, and yet...
* And yet...

Alphinaud:
* Alisaie. I have an idea.
* Given the nature of this realm, it may be possible to do more than unbar our friend's path. We might also pave her a new one.
* For instance...
* A path where she finds happiness at journey's end.
* This much, I think we can believe with the utmost conviction. No matter how deep our despair.
* So please, believe in us too. And press on.
* Thank you...

Alisaie:
* If the plan's decided, then let's not dally.

Meteion:
* Ah, there you are. It was as I said, was it not?

Alphinaud:
* It was. We couldn't find anyone.
* But this place isn't entirely deserted, is it? You are here.
* You sought out a star of promise and found a ruined husk.
* Like us, you explored the devastation. Like us, you were stricken.
* Horrified by the thought that so many lives could be snuffed out as if they were worth nothing.
* And the thought that you would have to bear the terrible tidings to Hermes.
* That which you saw and felt, you shared with your sisters. As did they share their own grim findings with you.
* Overcome by the pervasive despair of these stars, some of you inadvertently ushered their peoples to their ends.
* Knowing the horrors you know, anyone would feel the same. They would fear what lies ahead, and struggle to move forward.

Meteion:
* Fear... I had forgotten that such a thing existed, so focused have I been on shepherding despair.

Alphinaud:
* If you can remember, then you can still face and overcome your own fear.

Meteion:
* Why would I bother with such an insignificant emotion? If the despair I command is as a raging river, then fear is but a trickling stream.
* It can do nothing to alter my flow.
* You spoke with the Ea, yes? Heard their tale of what awaits the universe?
* It's true. The stars grow colder and more distant. Eventually all will enjoy frozen solitude.
* Using the power of dynamis, I am hastening that process.
* In so doing, nothing will be born ever again. Everyone will remain dead.
* Alas, it will take time for that to happen. So in mercy I sent you my gift, to spare you needless suffering.
* Don't worry. Even if no living witnesses remain to mark the event, I'll make certain that Etheirys has a proper end.

Alisaie:
* For all the power you wield, you're more fearful than the familiar you used to be.
* That Meteion feared simply to move forward, but your fear is such that you've given up on everything.
* I know it well. That sense of defeat. I've tasted my fair share of it.
* But as many times as we've fallen down, we've learned how to pick ourselves up and carry on.
* We take each other's hand. Share in each other's courage. Follow in each other's footsteps. And turn sorrow into strength!

Alphinaud:
* There are times when we fail. We bear wounds that do not heal.
* But these experiences are part of life, and they make us stronger!
* We rise, fall, and rise again!

Alisaie:
* Don't worry about us. You must take the next step, and all the rest after that.

Tataru:
* Please... Please... Oh, please let them all be safe...
* Krile? Are you all right?

Krile:
* It's nothing... Just a headache.
* They'll be fine... I know they will...

Worldly Affairs Official:
* Apologies for the interruption! A man arrived on the last ferry. An associate of the Scions!
* He wishes to speak with you at once!

When the player is walking toward Absolute Horizon
* Voice from the Past (Ardbert): If you need a push, I'll be right there behind you.
* Voice from the Past (Haurchefant): Do not despair! You are not without allies.
* Voice from the Past (Merlwyb): What we have sown in blood, we have reaped in suffering, and it cannot go on.
* Voice from the Past (Aymeric): Upon the souls of they who have sacrificed themselves to pave the way for peace, we will never abandon our cause.
* Voice from the Past (Nanamo): While it is true that man succumbs all too often to anger and avarice, he may yet overcome his baser instincts through the forming of bonds with others.
* Voice from the Past (Raubahn): Such victories are rarely won without sacrifice. But the prize is worth the price.
* Voice from the Past (Kan-E-Senna): And we for our part are glad indeed to be able to welcome friends both old and new...
* Voice from the Past (Hien): Save your tears for the morrow. You may be sure we will have ample cause to shed them, be they for joy or despair.
* Voice from the Past (Papalymo): From tragedy and sacrifice we rise to greet a new dawn.
* Voice from the Past (Edmont): A future shaped by the choices we made, in ways we could never have foreseen.
* Voice from the Past (Beq Lugg): Yet miracles do happen. So let us pray, and will our friends home.
* Voice from the Past (Ryne): I won't stop praying until I know they're safe.
* Voice from the Past (Midgardsormr): Strong art thou, mortal.
* Voice from the Past (Minfilia): Look to the light within, that you may continue to serve as a beacon to others.
* Voice from the Past (Ardbert): Let's finish this.

Meteion:
* Here the path ends. There is no way to reach our nest.
* I told you. Resignation and acceptance reign in this place.
* The rejection of life by those who came to curse it.
* Those whose dreams were unfulfilled. Whose prayers were unheard. Whose labors were unrewarded.
* Hope cannot deliver you unto hopelessness. Our refuge is beyond you.
* Always has it been. Such is the nature of this place.
* You should have remained on Etheirys.
* Struggle will avail you naught, nor will it grant your comrades peace.
* Come, let me relieve you of your burden. You have suffered enough.

???:
* I bid them remember, but all this time, I'm the one who had forgotten... A right fool you've made of me, Hermes.
* And to add insult to injury, I've been denied a sound rest, forced to watch this clamorous show.
* Oh come now, it's been a gripping tale. Unbreakable bonds and noble sacrifice, sprinkled with moments of levity to counterbalance the pathos. It's got it all.
* I for one would have been perfectly content to watch enraptured from the stalls...

Hythlodaeus:
* But I won't say no to a bit part!

Meteion:
* What are you?

Emet-Selch:
* Half-faded souls of the dead. Isn't it painfully obvious?
* Worry not─we haven't the power to defeat you. Nor is it our duty to do so. Not anymore.
* That being said, we do have a score to settle.
* So, here I am, Venat. I suppose you needed me to tie it all together, these frayed threads of our history─but knowing you, I suspect there's a joke in it too. Oh yes, I can imagine you gloating over my forgetfulness.
* Were I feeling charitable, I might assume you had left room for the possibility of this outcome.
* Even so, you'll get no applause from me. A single gesture will not lighten the burden I've had to bear.
* Still, you must be commended. Our methods would not have brought mankind this far.
* And so, as a show of respect to the last of us, I make this declaration.
* You will not end our journey!
* That is our answer! The answer of all lives of Etheirys, past and present!

Hythlodaeus:
* As you've called us to the stage, so shall we perform. And creation magicks never fail to please.
* Drawing upon the hopes of your comrades, we will make for you a new path.

Emet-Selch:
* What form said path takes depends on you. So focus─focus and envision that which rejects the claim that you cannot attain your goal!

Hythlodaeus:
* Ours is the wisdom to weave the fabric of reality...
* Ours is the power to create!

Emet-Selch:
* These Elpis blooms serve as proof that this realm is not utterly devoid of hope. No more can you deny its power. No more is yours the dominion of despair.
* In case the practical implications were lost on you, your comrades no longer need fight their fight.
* So, go on. Call them back to your side.

Thancred:
* How disappointing. Not even a single scar in the making to brag about.

Estinien:
* You'll find a way regardless.

Y'shtola:
*At the end of the crystalline path, you and the twins arrive at a recreation of a ruined city. Meteion reveals that this world was already devoid of life when she found it, but despite the seeming absence of emotion to bar your way, she claims you will find no path forward. Not to be discouraged, you resolve to ascertain the truth with your own eyes, and split up to explore.
* Honestly... This is far more than any of us could have hoped for. Let us be thankful.

Urianger:
*You search high and low, but fail to find any forms of life. Given the state in which the city has been left, however, one would think the denizens simply up and vanished. Having seen what there is to be seen, you decide to rejoin Alisaie.
* Indeed. That we thus stand reunited is a gift. Let us not squander it, and see that we all return to Etheirys.

G'raha Tia:
*Alisaie points out a terminating road; if only it continued, the dead sun would seem to be within reach. With your combined findings, you go to seek out Alphinaud to see if he has made any discoveries of his own.
* Aye, as soon as we've averted the Final Days!

Alisaie:
*As your party gathers to ponder your quandary, Alisaie's musings spark an epiphany within Alphinaud. Convinced that there is indeed someone present who has wished for the ruin amidst which you stand, he leads the way to that very individual─Meteion herself. The familiar, he explains, was horrified by the devastation she found wheresoever she went in the universe, and succumbed to the fear of moving forward. Drawing upon their conviction that hardships are a part of life to be embraced, Alphinaud and Alisaie succeed in breaking down the wall of Meteion's fear, sacrificing themselves to open the way for you. As the last to remain, your steps weigh heavy, but you remind yourself that you are not alone as you set forth for the oppressive darkness of Absolute Horizon. Should you stray from the path, you may begin walking it again from the entrance to the Nekropolis.
* Good to see you again. Our heroic sacrifice paid off, I take it?

Alphinaud:
*You arrive at Absolute Horizon only to have Meteion reveal that there is no way to reach her nest─for hope cannot deliver you unto hopelessness. To come so near yet be so far, you feel the tendrils of despair begin to grip your heart, but the voices within grant you the strength to carry on. As if resonating with your resolve, the crystal of Azem begins to shine before two familiar forms appear─Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus, plucked from the Lifestream. Declaring their defiance against the doom Meteion would bring, they draw upon the hopes of your comrades to make for you a new path, one in a form of your choosing. You scarcely have a moment to blink as the barren ground around you transforms into a field of Elpis flowers, white and radiant in hope enduring. Their presence serves to prove that despair no longer holds complete sway in this realm, and thus you are free to summon your comrades back to your side. The blossoms also awaken the memories of Hermes within Meteion, who beseeches you to silence the song of oblivion her sisters sing before fleeing to the dead sun. Their impromptu parts played to perfection, your ancient allies take their leave, bowing out to resume their slumber and entrusting you with the fate of the star─yours and theirs.
* Come, my friends. Let us carry on and finish it─together.

Meteion:
*With the way to Meteion's nest open and your comrades beside you once more, you stand ready to finish your task. To the Endsinger, you must deliver the answer of all lives of Etheirys, and see this tale to a triumphant conclusion.
* Can you...hear me...?
* The voices within... Crying in pain, wailing in sorrow... Hurting... Hurting...
* End it...silence it... Silence our song of oblivion!

Hythlodaeus:
Voice from the Past quotations
* The way is open. They can proceed.

Emet-Selch: So it seems.
Shades are ordered in the number of their placement on the path to Absolute Horizon.

Alisaie:

! Shade Number !! Quote !! Speaker !! Quest/The Unending Journey Cutscene Number !! Context
|-
| 1 || "If you need a push, I'll be right there behind you." || Ardbert || main, Cutscene 1 || In this scene, Ardbert is offering his solidarity to the Warrior of Darkness, whose soul is fractured and struggling to contain the absorbed Light from the Lightwardens as Everlasting Light returns to the skies of Norvrandt.
Ardbert, who himself faced a similar burden after inadvertently initiating the Flood of Light, acknowledges the challenges the Warrior of Darkness is experiencing. Despite his own past failures and regrets, Ardbert reassures the Warrior of Darkness that they are not alone and that he will be there to support them if they falter.
|-
| 2 || "Do not despair! You are not without allies." || Haurchefant || main, Cutscene 1 || After the Scions of the Seventh Dawn are betrayed and scattered following the events at the banquet in Ul'dah, the Warrior of Light and Alphinaud find themselves seeking asylum in Ishgard. At this moment, Haurchefant informs them that the city of Ishgard has recently endured another assault by the Dravanians, with several wyverns breaching the city walls and causing considerable damage. Despite the success in repelling the attack, the city remains on high alert, and the threat from the Dravanians takes priority over any other matters, including their petition for asylum.

Emet-Selch:
Understanding the gravity of the situation and the emotional toll it has taken on the Warrior of Light and Alphinaud, Haurchefant offers words of encouragement. He reassures them that, while their immediate situation might seem bleak, they still have allies who will support them. He extends the hospitality of House Fortemps, offering them shelter and protection, and emphasizes that they should not lose hope despite the adversity they face.
* Of course. The encore is finished, and I will not suffer myself to live again by Hydaelyn's magick.
|-
* But more than that, the future you seek is not the past we loved. That is why we fought. And why I lost.
| 3 || "What we have sown in blood, we have reaped in suffering, and it cannot go on." || Merlwyb || main, Cutscene 2 || The context of the quote reflects Merlwyb's acknowledgment of the long history of violence and bloodshed between the people of Limsa Lominsa and the kobolds. She admits that the exploitation and aggression on the part of her people, driven by greed and a desire for land, have led to a cycle of suffering for both sides. "What we have sown in blood" refers to the actions of the Lominsans, who have caused immense pain through their invasions and betrayals. "We have reaped in suffering" points to the inevitable consequences of those actions - endless conflict, distrust, and loss. Merlwyb's declaration "and it cannot go on" marks a turning point to break the cycle of violence by seeking a lasting peace with the kobolds.
* But though you defeated me, my ideals are inviolate. Invincible.
|-
* Spare me your pity. I have no use for it. If you would do something for me─save our star.
| 4 || "Upon the souls of they who have sacrificed themselves to pave the way for peace, we will never abandon our cause." || Aymeric || main, Cutscene 9 || The quote takes place after the final battle with King Thordan when Aymeric speaks with Midgardsormr who has been observing the Warrior of Light and the events unfolding in the conflict between man and dragon. Midgardsormr warns Aymeric that although Thordan has been defeated and Ishgard has begun to break free from its false faith, the struggle is far from over. Nidhogg has taken control of Estinien and will likely rally his kin to continue the fight against Ishgard.
* See this tale to a triumphant conclusion, and with elation in your hearts, bid the final curtain fall.
* Only then may it rise again and a new tale begin─with new parts for all to play.
* Tell me, have you been to the ruins beneath the waters of the Bounty?
* Or the treasure islands beyond the frozen waters of Blindfrost, in Othard's north?
* The fabled golden cities of the New World? The sacred sites of the forgotten people of the south sea isles?
* What about Meracydia, the southern continent? Do you know aught of its present state of affairs?
* ...I thought not. Even of your little Eorzea, you know precious little. The true identities of the Twelve, for instance.
* All of which is to say: expand your horizons. Go forth and seek discovery. Some of the civilizations in the reflections will surprise you.
* As the bearer of Azem's crystal, you may consider your duty to see at least that much.
* I certainly did.

Hythlodaeus:
In this context, Aymeric's words are a solemn vow. He acknowledges the sacrifices made by those who have fought and died in the pursuit of peace, including characters like Haurchefant. He commits to continuing their work, recognizing that the path to lasting peace will be long and fraught with challenges. His declaration that "we will never abandon our cause" reflects his determination to honor their memory and to see through the dream of a peaceful coexistence between man and dragon, no matter how difficult the journey may be.
* I pray we meet again. If not in this life, then perhaps another.
|-
* Whensoever it should be, I trust it will be a most joyous reunion.
| 5 || "While it is true that man succumbs all too often to anger and avarice, he may yet overcome his baser instincts through the forming of bonds with others." || Nanamo || main, Cutscene 3 || The quote is delivered during a critical point in a parley for peace between the Eorzean Alliance and Emperor Varis zos Galvus of the Garlean Empire. During the parley, Emperor Varis reveals his radical vision for the world: a desire to bring about the Rejoining, at the cost of countless lives. His argument is that this would create a perfect, unified race of humanity, free from the divisions and conflicts that plague the current world.

Emet-Selch:
In response to Varis's grand but destructive vision, Nanamo counters with a defense of human nature. She acknowledges that humans often fall prey to negative emotions like anger and greed. However, she argues that these flaws can be mitigated and even overcome through the creation of bonds between people. She asserts that the flaws and imperfections of humanity are not reasons to erase or homogenize the world, but rather reasons to work together to build a better future.
* For you, maybe. I want nothing to do with it.
|-
| 6 || "Such victories are rarely won without sacrifice. But the prize is worth the price." || Raubahn || main, Cutscene 1 || The context of the quote comes after the Warrior of Light and the Scions return from their mission in the Far East, where they successfully helped to liberate Doma from imperial rule. This victory is seen as a significant turning point, not only for Doma but also for the broader conflict against the Garlean Empire. The leaders of the Alliance are aware that the news of Doma's liberation will have created unrest and weakened the resolve of the imperial forces, providing an opportunity to strike back and advance their own campaign to reclaim Ala Mhigo. Raubahn's statement reflects his view that the sacrifices made in Doma, including the lives lost and the hardships endured, were significant, but the outcome - freedom from imperial rule - is justified.
|-
| 7 || "And we for our part are glad indeed to be able to welcome friends both old and new..." || Kan-E-Senna || main, Cutscene 2 || Kan-E-Senna's words are part of the formal welcoming of Lord Hien of Doma and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn to the Eorzean Alliance council meeting. The leaders of Eorzea are expressing their appreciation for the unity and support of their allies as they face the challenges ahead. The mention of "friends both old and new" refers to the longstanding members of the Alliance as well as the newly arrived Doman contingent.
|-
| 8 || "Save your tears for the morrow. You may be sure we will have ample cause to shed them, be they for joy or despair." || Hien || main, Cutscene 2 || The quote "Save your tears for the morrow" occurs during a conversation on the eve of a significant battle to reclaim Doma Castle. In this scene, Hien and his allies are preparing for the final assault on the castle, which includes the drastic decision to flood the castle to weaken the enemy forces.

Alisaie:
Overcome with emotion, Gosetsu reflects on his past failures and the opportunity he has been given to redeem himself, leading to a moment of vulnerability. Hien, recognizing the heavy atmosphere and the weight of the upcoming battle, responds with the phrase "Save your tears for the morrow," suggesting that while the situation is grave, the time for emotional release - whether it be in victory or defeat - will come after the battle is over. Hien's words are meant to encourage his comrades to focus on the task at hand and to remain strong until the mission is complete.
* I don't think I ever knew what to say to the man. In retrospect, it always felt like the wrong thing...
|-
* But the past notwithstanding, he came to your aid in your moment of need.
| 9 || "From tragedy and sacrifice we rise to greet a new dawn." || Papalymo || main, Cutscene 2 || This quote appears at the beginning of Patch 3.4 in a voiceover, after the Warrior of Light has killed Nidhogg for the second and final time and lasting peace has returned to Ishgard. It serves as a reminder that despite the hardships and sacrifices they have endured, they must continue to move forward with hope and determination.
* We are here, and we will not squander this chance he has given us!
|-
* We will see this tale to a triumphant conclusion, and bid the final curtain fall!
| 10 || "A future shaped by the choices we made, in ways we could never have foreseen." || Edmont || main, Cutscene 5 || The quote reflects on the aftermath of the Siege of the Vault, where religious extremists opposed to change in Ishgard take hostages, demanding Ser Aymeric's execution. The Scions launch a rescue mission, during which Vidofnir intervenes, saving a child and symbolizing hope for peace between Ishgard and the Dravanians. Count Edmont's reflection underscores the uncertainty of the future. This is also the final line by Edmont's English VA, Stephen Critchlow, who died in September 2021 at the age of 54.
|-
| 11 || "Yet miracles do happen. So let us pray, and will our friends home." || Beq Lugg || main, Cutscene 5 || The Scions prepare to return to the Source from the First through a dangerous soul-transfer ritual using spirit vessels to traverse the rift between the worlds. Beq Lugg is overseeing the process which is fraught with uncertainty and risk. Despite the challenges, Beq Lugg expresses hope and belief in the possibility of a miracle, encouraging everyone involved to trust in the success of the ritual and safely return home.
|-
| 12 || "I won't stop praying until I know they're safe." || Ryne || main, Cutscene 5 || Ryne's reply to Beq Lugg's line above. Ryne hopes for the safety of the Scions as they prepare to make the journey back across the rift to the Source.
|-
| 13 || "Strong art thou, mortal." || Midgardsormr || main, Cutscene 5 || In Azys Lla, the Warrior of Light seeks a way to reach the Flagship. After discovering the path is blocked, Midgardsormr directs the WoL to his imprisoned child, Tiamat, who shares her tragic past. Moved by her story, the WoL's Crystal of Fire regains its light, and Hydaelyn's blessing is restored. Acknowledging the WoL's strength and worthiness to bear the Light, Midgardsormr offers his wings to carry them to the Flagship to face the challenges ahead.
|-
| 14 || "Look to the light within, that you may continue to serve as a beacon to others." || Minfilia || main, Cutscene 2 || This quote is spoken by Minfilia (as the Oracle of Light) to her counterpart in the First.
|-
| 15 || "Let's finish this." || Ardbert || main, Cutscene 1 || This line reflects Ardbert (as the Warrior of Darkness) and his determination just before the final confrontation with the Warrior of Light on the Source. The confrontation is Ardbert's desperate attempt to save the First, which has been overcome by the Flood of Light.

 • If Alisaie is discouraged, she betrays no hint of it.
 • At the end of the crystalline path, you and the twins arrive at a recreation of a ruined city. Meteion reveals that this world was already devoid of life when she found it, but despite the seeming absence of emotion to bar your way, she claims you will find no path forward. Not to be discouraged, you resolve to ascertain the truth with your own eyes, and split up to explore.
 • You search high and low, but fail to find any forms of life. Given the state in which the city has been left, however, one would think the denizens simply up and vanished. Having seen what there is to be seen, you decide to rejoin Alisaie.
 • Alisaie points out a terminating road; if only it continued, the dead sun would seem to be within reach. With your combined findings, you go to seek out Alphinaud to see if he has made any discoveries of his own.
 • As your party gathers to ponder your quandary, Alisaie's musings spark an epiphany within Alphinaud.
 • You arrive at Absolute Horizon only to have Meteion reveal that there is no way to reach her nest─for hope cannot deliver you unto hopelessness.
 • With the way to Meteion's nest open and your comrades beside you once more, you stand ready to finish your task. To the Endsinger, you must deliver the answer of all lives of Etheirys, and see this tale to a triumphant conclusion.

Shades are ordered in the number of their placement on the path to Absolute Horizon.

Shade Number Quote Speaker Quest/The Unending Journey Cutscene Number Context
1 "If you need a push, I'll be right there behind you." Ardbert Main Scenario QuestIn His Garden, Cutscene 1 In this scene, Ardbert is offering his solidarity to the Warrior of Darkness, whose soul is fractured and struggling to contain the absorbed Light from the Lightwardens as Everlasting Light returns to the skies of Norvrandt.

2 "Do not despair! You are not without allies." Haurchefant Main Scenario QuestBefore the Dawn, Cutscene 1 After the Scions of the Seventh Dawn are betrayed and scattered following the events at the banquet in Ul'dah, the Warrior of Light and Alphinaud find themselves seeking asylum in Ishgard.

3 "What we have sown in blood, we have reaped in suffering, and it cannot go on." Merlwyb Main Scenario QuestThe Great Ship Vylbrand, Cutscene 2 The context of the quote reflects Merlwyb's acknowledgment of the long history of violence and bloodshed between the people of Limsa Lominsa and the kobolds.
4 "Upon the souls of they who have sacrificed themselves to pave the way for peace, we will never abandon our cause." Aymeric Main Scenario QuestHeavensward, Cutscene 9 The quote takes place after the final battle with King Thordan when Aymeric speaks with Midgardsormr who has been observing the Warrior of Light and the events unfolding in the conflict between man and dragon. Midgardsormr warns Aymeric that although Thordan has been defeated and Ishgard has begun to break free from its false faith, the struggle is far from over. Nidhogg has taken control of Estinien and will likely rally his kin to continue the fight against Ishgard.

5 "While it is true that man succumbs all too often to anger and avarice, he may yet overcome his baser instincts through the forming of bonds with others." Nanamo Main Scenario QuestParley on the Front Lines, Cutscene 3 The quote is delivered during a critical point in a parley for peace between the Eorzean Alliance and Emperor Varis zos Galvus of the Garlean Empire. During the parley, Emperor Varis reveals his radical vision for the world: a desire to bring about the Rejoining, at the cost of countless lives. His argument is that this would create a perfect, unified race of humanity, free from the divisions and conflicts that plague the current world.

6 "Such victories are rarely won without sacrifice. But the prize is worth the price." Raubahn Main Scenario QuestRhalgr's Beacon, Cutscene 1 The context of the quote comes after the Warrior of Light and the Scions return from their mission in the Far East, where they successfully helped to liberate Doma from imperial rule.
7 "And we for our part are glad indeed to be able to welcome friends both old and new..." Kan-E-Senna Main Scenario QuestThe Call, Cutscene 2 Kan-E-Senna's words are part of the formal welcoming of Lord Hien of Doma and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn to the Eorzean Alliance council meeting. The leaders of Eorzea are expressing their appreciation for the unity and support of their allies as they face the challenges ahead. The mention of "friends both old and new" refers to the longstanding members of the Alliance as well as the newly arrived Doman contingent.
8 "Save your tears for the morrow. You may be sure we will have ample cause to shed them, be they for joy or despair." Hien Main Scenario QuestOn the Eve of Destiny, Cutscene 2 The quote "Save your tears for the morrow" occurs during a conversation on the eve of a significant battle to reclaim Doma Castle. In this scene, Hien and his allies are preparing for the final assault on the castle, which includes the drastic decision to flood the castle to weaken the enemy forces.

9 "From tragedy and sacrifice we rise to greet a new dawn." Papalymo Main Scenario QuestPromises Kept, Cutscene 2 This quote appears at the beginning of Patch 3.4 in a voiceover, after the Warrior of Light has killed Nidhogg for the second and final time and lasting peace has returned to Ishgard. 10 "A future shaped by the choices we made, in ways we could never have foreseen." Edmont Main Scenario QuestAs Goes Light, So Goes Darkness, Cutscene 5 The quote reflects on the aftermath of the Siege of the Vault, where religious extremists opposed to change in Ishgard take hostages, demanding Ser Aymeric's execution.
11 "Yet miracles do happen. So let us pray, and will our friends home." Beq Lugg Main Scenario QuestReflections in Crystal, Cutscene 5 The Scions prepare to return to the Source from the First through a dangerous soul-transfer ritual using spirit vessels to traverse the rift between the worlds.
