“While the expedition party succeeded in spreading the invigorating power of Darkness to the Empty, their efforts awakened the latent consciousness of the Ascian Mitron, who upon returning to the world took Gaia—Oracle of Darkness and Mitron's erstwhile partner—prisoner. As the Warrior of Darkness and their allies rushed to rescue her, Mitron conjured a foe wrought from Ryne's deepest hopes and fears to stand in their way. The resulting being resembled Thancred, Ryne's mentor and guardian, most of all—though some aspects were reminiscent of General Ran'jit and his familiar Gukumatz, or even Ryne's former captor, Vauthry.
