Lore

Widargelt, originally born Theodred, is the estranged nephew of the mad King Theodoric. When the king began killing his family off to ensure his reign, Widargelt was hidden at the Temple of the Fist, where he was raised as a Monk, unaware of his royal heritage.

Widargelt is hired by Erik, a historian researching the military history of Eorzea. Craving the power to liberate his homeland, Ala Mhigo, he used the opportunity to expose himself to the aether swirling around the battlefields to open his Chakra. He met the Warrior of Light at the ruins of Sil'dih when they managed to awaken a Chakra. Recognizing their potential, Widargelt entrusted them with a Soul Crystal to help hone their skills.

When progress is slow thanks to Erik's methodology, Widargelt attempted to rush things by attacking the Warrior of Light so the aether of Lake Silvertear could awaken their Chakra. Through the battle, the Warrior of Light did indeed manage to awaken their Chakra, however Erik admonished Widargelt heavily for the unnecessary violence.

As Widargelt grew and became stronger, having learned from his mistakes, he sought to bring the techniques of the Fist of Rhalgr to the people of Eorzea. He began building a temple in Mor Dhona, and took on new pupils. However, it turned out that the two pupils, D'zentsa and O'tchakha were already members of the Fist of Rhalgr, trained under H'raha Tia, a brutal master who sought to teach others to open Chakra beyond the seventh. Having opened all fourteen, he is the only Monk to do so, but his training involves mortal combat. Because of this, the two young pupils sought Widargelt out to confront H'raha.

Widargelt decided that the only way they may stand against H'raha was by banding together and fighting as one. O'tchakha, the Warrior of Light and Widargelt confronted H'raha outside of the ruins of Little Ala Mhigo where he held D'zentsa captive. Though Widargelt attempted to persuade him to join them instead, he refused and chose to attack instead. In that moment, the Warrior of Light unlocked their fourteenth Chakra and blocked the attack. Now on a level playing field, the group manage to defeat H'raha, and Widargelt swore to find the shadow sects of the surviving Fist of Rhalgr members and bring them back to the light.

Following the Ala Mhigan Resistance inviting Widargelt to join them and his eventual refusal, he decided that it was time for him to return home and attempt to revive the Fist of Rhalgr in Gyr Abania. He invitesHamon Holyfist of the Pugilist's Guild and his pupils to an exhibition match to generate interest in his art, but is interrupted by Theobald, the supposed son of King Theodoric, and body double for The Griffin. He warns Widargelt against atempting to revive the Fist of Rhalgr, and declares himself the rightful ruler of Ala Mhigo. When Widargelt refuses to stand down, it is revealed that Theobald is not the son of Theodoric, nor is his name even Theobald, but Adri. Adri, following his home of the temple being destroyed by Theodoric's men, came to believe that blood matters more than training or anything else, and that was why the supposed strongest Monks were defeated so easily. Widargelt refutes that he is only powerful because he is related to Theodoric, claiming himself to be Widargelt of the Fist of Rhalgr, and nothing more or less. In the clash, Adri and his men are defeated.

Some time later, Widargelt finds Adri's corpse, apparently having been slain fighting against the Corpse Brigade. He buried his friend in Little Ala Mhigo. He is invited to The Temple of the Fist by Lyse Hext, who requests that he train her and the other members of the Ala Mhigan military in the art of the Fist of Rhalgr.

Temple Attire: The religious habit of the Fist of Rhalgr, made entirely on the temple grounds. The cloth is loomed by monks, the thread spun from the cocoons of remarkable worms unknown to naturalists but which arise in great numbers in the temple seolc-house. Every stitch is half as wide as its wearer's little fingernail, and it is said that the result forms a holy geometry to further open one's chakras.
Tantra Attire: Only elders in the Fist of Rhalgr are permitted to don this attire. Though the thread used in its creation is the same as that woven into the standard temple habit, the veteran monks looming the tantra cloth imbue each stitch with concentrated energy, resulting in a significantly higher rate of aetherial conductivity. A monk's chakras are thus greatly expanded when swathed in such material, but without the training required to moderate the excessive outpouring of aether, an unseasoned wearer would bleed out his entire life essence in a matter of moments.
Sphairai: A pair of Sphairai cunningly wrought in the form of coeurls. The sweat of Ivon Coeurlfist and blood of his enemies anoint these ever-snarling beasts of hide and metal. Perhaps the most famed of the warrior monks of the Fist of Rhalgr, Ivon is said to have eschewed the training grounds of the main temple in favor of martial congress with wild coeurls.
Rising Suns: These ornate weapons cover the entire fist, the radial pattern of their spikes lending the impression of a dawning sun's lancing rays. The origin of the Rising Suns' name, however, is not found in their design alone. Forged from a delicate balance of mythril and silver, the spikes act as conduits, conveying and radiating the energies focused in the monk's fists. A master practitioner equipped with these weapons is capable of emitting blinding levels of aether, each blow falling with terrible, incandescent force.
