Aetherial Reduction is a general action that allows the player to break down Collectables into Crystals, Clusters and rare materials called aethersand. The higher the collectability, the higher chance for it to yield aethersand. As of Patch 5.4, hitting the max collectability of 1000 guarantees aethersand, with a potential bonus amount. There are special types of aethersand exclusive to Miner, Botanist, and Fisher, the first examples being Landborne, Leafborne, and Seaborne.
Beginning with Stormblood items, the different kinds of aethersand can also be purchased from the Scrip Exchange with Gatherer's Scrip.
