Eorzea is home to myriad unique races. Among them are those known as "beastmen", Spoken who live, either by choice or compulsion, apart from the so-called "civilized" races of Hydaelyn.

Terminology

The term "beast tribe" was officially coined in the year 1559 of the Sixth Astral Era by the sultanate of Ul'dah, which, under the influence of the Syndicate, sought to declare the Amalj'aa "foreign" enemies of the state. To this day, the distinction exists only within the Sultanate and its neighbors.
