'''Positional actions''', or '''positionals''', are single-target attack [[action]]s from [[Melee DPS]] whose potency depends on where the user is located relative to an enemy target. All positionals are either "rear" (behind the enemy) or "flank" (to the sides of the enemy), which is denoted by its hitbox. Some enemies have a hitbox that is a full circle without a rear gap. In these cases, positional actions will always receive their potency bonus regardless of where the user is located. A common example are large bosses that are located outside of the arena. 

All positional actions are weaponskills (i.e., on the [[global cooldown]]), except for {{action icon|Trick Attack}} from [[Rogue]] / [[Ninja]].

The Melee DPS role action {{action icon|True North}} can be used to nullify positional requirements for 10s. This action should be used if the player is unable to reach the rear / flank of an enemy due to ongoing mechanics, or the enemy is positioned poorly.

Some bosses added since [[patch 7.01]] will acquire the [[File:Directional disregard icon1.png|24px|link=]] '''Directional Disregard''' status effect at certain points in the battle, indicating that their normally directional hitbox will become omnidirectional. This usually occurs during mechanics where it is impossible or very difficult to hit positionals considering the duration and charges of True North.

While positionals have played a larger importance in earlier versions of the game (e.g., some positional actions only continued a combo or inflicted a debuff if the positional was hit), currently, all positional bonuses provide only a small bonus in potency. However, to maximize damage, it is beneficial to hit positionals when possible.
