““Now that we've gotten the pleasantries out of the way, what do you say we have a little fun? Prepare to be blasted into a kazillion itty-bitty pieces!”
The legendary archmage Shatotto, a Mhachi Lalafell with a penchant for destruction and an intense hatred of hats, was born in the Fifth Astral Era (ca. 800) in the fabled city of Mhach. Driven to seek the ultimate in destructive power, she founded the art that came to be known as black magic, subsequently using her prodigious powers to smash a comet that threatened to destroy her nation into seemingly harmless fragments. She passed at the age of seventy-five, but not before sealing away a copy of her memories—as by her own calculations, a fragment of the comet would return to threaten Hydaelyn once more. So it was that she borrowed the body of the black mage Lalai and returned over two millennia later to save the world from calamity once more.

Lore
Gems and Soulstones
“When Shatotto summoned her vast destructive powers to shatter the comet, its fragments hurtled down, embedding themselves in the earth across all corners of Eorzea. Brimming with mystical energies, they afforded the mages of the realm untold powers, and were employed as “soulstones” for golems and in the crafting of enchanted items and arms, including the legendary Stardust Rod.
