“There are myriad ways to traverse the vast realm of Eorzea.
Take flight aboard an airship or sail across Eorzean seas by ferry. Travel by land using the chocobo porter or whisk yourself to a nearby aetheryte using Teleport or Return. If all else fails, hop on your trusty mount and explore the world as you please. Masterful use of these modes of transport is another part of being an adventurer.
There are numerous methods of transportation in Eorzea. Some methods are fast, others are slow, some are expensive and others are cheap.
Aetheryte
Return
Players will encounter return at an early level. It allows the player to transport themself to their home Aetheryte free of charge. Players can only use this ability once every 15 minutes.
Teleport
Players will be able to teleport to various Aetherytes in different locations of Eorzea. Each teleport costs gil. The further away the player is from the destination the more gil it costs to teleport.
Airship
Players can travel between the 3 major cities, Gridania, Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah by using the airship. Airship costs less gil than teleport but it is slower.
- Airship is unlocked at level 15 in the Main Scenario Quests.
Chocobo Porter
Players can travel between 2 chocobo stables in a zone by using the Chocobo porter. Players will have no control over the beast while it carries them across the land.
Ferry
Ferries connects various island and coastal locations to the main land or to each other. For example players can take the ferry to travel from Ul'dah to Limsa Lominsa.
Mounts
Mounts increase a player's travel speed. Players will acquire their first mount, the Company Chocobo, after completing the level 20 main story quest titled A Hero in the Making and then completing the next two Main Scenario Quests by joining a Grand Company. Players must then also complete the quest My Little Chocobo given by an NPC located within their Grand Company headquarters. Other mounts can be acquired by meeting different requirements, but they cannot be used until the Company Chocobo is unlocked.
- All mounts have the same movement speed increase.
