The Kingdom of Ivalice was an ancient civilization featured in the Return to Ivalice Alliance raid series, and the setting of a legend called "the Zodiac Brave Story." It allegedly existed on Hydaelyn in the lands of modern-day Dalmasca.
History

Long ago, the land that is now known as Dalmasca was once the kingdom of Ivalice, a land of heroes and legends. The earliest records of Ivalice indicate that the land was ruled by an empire known as the Holy Ydoran Empire, a cruel and tyrannical empire. Heroes known as the Zodiac Braves rose against the Ydoran Empire. Led by the first Brave named Saint Ajora, they summoned Ultima, The High Seraph and used her to destroy Mullonde, the imperial capital city. However, the Zodiac Braves feared her power, and sealed her along with the ruins of Mullonde away to prevent her from using her powers to take over Hydaelyn.
Records also show that a great war, known as the War of the Lions, where many of the nations of Ivalice fought for dominance over the land. During this time, Ultima attempted to free herself, using the power of Auracite and the corruption of the leaders of each nation and the church to do her bidding. A new generation of Zodiac Braves rose up, led by Ramza Beoulve, who delved into her realm and stopped her from returning, sacrificing themselves. The War of the Lions was won by Delita Heiral, who united the kingdom, becoming its king. He erased Ramza and the Zodiac Braves from history to keep Ultima a secret, hoping none would be able to attempt to call her back to the realm again. The people of The Clockwork City of Goug would eventually leave Ivalice, inhabiting Ilsabard, one day becoming the Garlean Empire.
For several millennia, the kingdom of Ivalice lay lost after several Calamities, only surviving in myths and tales passed down through the families of the Garlean Empire. However, following the destruction of Dalmasca by the Empire, the ruins of Lesalia were uncovered beneath Rabanastre.
