These asterisks are not a footnote, they represent the "rank" of a recipe. All level caps have recipe ranks 1-4, represented by stars ★ in the in-game crafting log (see [https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/playguide/db/recipe/1b42706a959/ Exarchic Codex]). Asterisks are used instead of the ★ as an ASCII-friendly replacement. I will do a find-and-replace at some point. Asterisks in Recipe Levels columns
Many of the level 50+ recipes have some number of asterisks after their level, but there's no key to indicate what these mean.
